ICANN Meeting: Delhi, India; Feb 10th to Feb 15th 2008

It is time for the next quarterly ICANN meet and this time around it holds very special importance to us at LogicBoxes. The 2008 first quarter ICANN meet is scheduled to be held between 10th and 15th February in New Delhi, India. Being hosted in our own country for the very first time, it gives us immense pleasure to have the opportunity to especially invite you and your team to attend this meeting.

As always, this conference presents all members of the Internet Community with the opportunity to meet those within the ever expanding industry and exchange valuable insights on the current scenario and the expected road ahead. In addition to interacting and networking with key players, ICANN meetings allow all involved to voice their opinions on critical decisions and actively participate in the policy making process. Strategic decisions taken at such meetings will shape the future of Registrar businesses in the years to come.

Located within the host country, LogicBoxes has planned a surprise for all our clients and guests. It would be great if you and your team could join us for the same. At this point in time, I do not have the liberty of giving you more details on this exclusive event; however I can guarantee that it will be special and completely worth your while. Additionally, LogicBoxes and Skenzo will jointly sponsor the conference and we will have our booth at the venue throughout the meeting. Our entire contingent is expected to attend this meeting and we’d like to invite you all to drop in by the booth as per your convenience and give us the opportunity to discuss things over personally.

To make things a little easier, we have put together a whole list of hotels and resources that you could use to make your arrangements comfortably. We’d honestly like to see you all at the meeting and hope nothing deters you from making the trip to India. While ICANN has already listed out various options, we’ve taken up the initiative of finding accommodation and travel alternatives that might suit your needs. Please click here to access this information.

Also, if you intend to tour the country with family etc., do let us know and we could help you narrow down on places of interest and travel options. LogicBoxes’ Offices are located in Mumbai and if you do intend to visit our city, we’ll be glad to arrange for you to see our offices and meet our team in person.

We look forward to having you attend the meeting and sincerely hope that you will be part of the LogicBoxes event as well. Do let us know if you’ll need any additional information from us and we’d be more than happy to help.

New gTLD Program

The process for the introduction of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) is central to fostering choice and competition in domain registration services, and as such is significant to the promotion of ICANN’s core values. The evolution of the namespace toward enhanced diversity of services and service providers must be planned and managed effectively to preserve the security, stability, reliability, and global interoperability of the Internet.

The proposed policy to guide the introduction of new gTLDs was created by the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) through its bottom-up, multi-stakeholder policy development process. The questions addressed in the development of new gTLD policy involve technical, economic, operational, legal, public policy, and other considerations. The intended result is a straightforward, fair, and efficient process for allocating new gTLDs.

Verisign Domain Name Industry Brief reports 146 Million Registrations

The latest issue of the VeriSign Domain Name Industry Brief reports that the third quarter of 2007 ended with a total base of 146 million domain name registrations worldwide across all of the Top Level Domain Names (TLDs). This represents a six percent growth over the second quarter and 31 percent growth over the same quarter last year. The total base of ccTLD registrations was 54.6 million, a six percent increase quarter over quarter and a 38 percent increase year over year. Reviewing the total base of registrations in both global TLDs and ccTLDs, .COM has the highest base with the next two spots remaining unchanged with .DE (Germany) and .NET rounding out the top three. This quarter, .CN (China) moved solidly to the fourth spot. This leaves the fifth spot to be shared by .UK (United Kingdom) and .ORG with approximately the same number of total domain name registrations.
