Application Round Opens for Paris Meeting Fellowships

Program makes sure global voices are heard at ICANN’s International Public Meetings

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. : The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is putting out the call for fellowship program applications for its 32nd International Public Meeting to be held in Paris from 22-27 June 2008.

“The fellowship program plays a key role in making sure that global voices are heard at the ICANN meeting and in our various public forums,” said Theresa Swinehart, ICANN’s Vice President, Global and Strategic Partnerships.

Nominating Committee Call for Expressions of Interest in Assessment Team

Summary

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) seeks an organization capable of interviewing and assessing candidates for ICANN leadership positions. ICANN’s Nominating Committee will take steps to identify and recruit a stream of candidates.

The search for candidates will be conducted on a worldwide basis depending on ICANN’s specific needs. Assessments will need to be made on a continuing basis as statements of interest from potential candidates are received, starting in January 2008 and concluding no later than 15 May 2008. Assessments should be made in person when possible and otherwise by telephone.

An Important Step Toward the Implementation of IDN Top-Level Domains: New Versions of IDNA Protocol Revision Proposals Posted

Revised papers of the technical standards that define the implementation of IDNs — the standards are called IDNA — were recently released via the IETF editors. These revisions are an important step toward the delegation of IDN top-level domains.

An informal expert panel, working as what the IETF calls a “design team,” evaluated experiences gained in the implementation of the previous version of IDNA since its introduction in 2003, and identified several key areas of future work. These key areas were described in several documents that triggered a formal revision of the IDNA protocol. New versions of the internet-drafts proposing the revisions to the IDNA protocol have been released and are as follows:

ICANN Chair Opens Doors to Participation

Whoever you are, wherever you are, get involved.

RIO DE JANEIRO: ICANN chairman Peter Dengate Thrush took the opportunity of the last day of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Rio to urge everyone at the conference to get involved and participate in ICANN.

“Whoever you are, wherever you are, if you are interested in finding out more about ICANN, or its work, the door is open,” Dengate Thrush said. “Please walk in.”

ICANN’s organizational model has been specifically designed to allow everyone to contribute, from business to governments to the technical community to everyday Internet users.

ICANN Commends Successful IGF Meeting

RIO DE JANEIRO: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers today commended the second meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Rio de Janeiro.

“Just as was envisioned, the IGF has brought together the Internet community — including ICANN — to meet and discuss the most pressing Internet issues we face together,” said Dr Paul Twomey, ICANN’s President and CEO. “ICANN has had a large number of discussions with a wide range of people at the IGF, and have built new bridges and strengthened existing relationships.”
