LogicBoxes will be at ICANN’s 66th Meet in Montreal

We have an exciting month ahead of us at LogicBoxes. Why, you ask? ICANN66 Montreal is set to take place from 2nd – 7th November 2019 in (of course), Montreal. Before we dive into the event details, let’s step back a bit.

As the last major registrar/registry focussed event of the year, this ICANN conference is the perfect time to catch up with our clients and colleagues from the industry to discuss the failures and successes of 2019 and what 2020 promises.

LogicBoxes’ Focus & Future plans

We’ve had a pretty great 2019 at LogicBoxes. Some of the key initiatives that really gained momentum this year were:

1. Vertical Integration Program for registries

LogicBoxes for a number of years has been the leader in providing vertical integration solutions for registries (ccTLDs and New gTLDs). Our solution enables registries build a retail storefront for their TLDs to capitalise on their marketing efforts and communicate their core value proposition which is extremely difficult to do via the usual registrar channel. This year due to our roadshows, we gained significant interest and new partnerships with some of our prospects. This proved to be a huge success for us in terms of revenue and customer growth.

2. Registrar Automation Program:

LogicBoxes, for many years has been known as the go-to platform provider for ICANN Registrars and hosting companies that intend to become known in the near future. 2019 proved to be immensely successful for this program due to the fact that more and more hosting companies that were growing in customers wanted to have more control over their domain pricing and strategy. This therefore saw a rise in the number of ICANN Accreditations we did for such companies who now use our platform for their domain business as registrars. Additionally, existing ICANN registrars looked to outsource their domain business to a solid platform to reduce overhead operational costs that have significantly increased due to continual compliance and legal burdens/pressure/mandates being put on registrars.

We look forward to sharing more details about these initiatives at the ICANN66 conference meet.

With globalization scaling new heights, international boundaries are blurring rapidly. Brands and people, alike, are striving to increase their reach across the globe, regardless of geographical, cultural, and linguistic boundaries. This is exactly how small businesses, as well as social media influencers from the most remote parts of the world, are being able to reach a global audience in their hopes of making it big.

Having a website is imperative to establish a global presence. Moreover, having the perfect domain name extension in your website URL can make all the difference when it comes to enhancing this global presence further. There is one such domain name which perfectly fulfils this purpose – .GLOBAL

A Little History on .GLOBAL

.GLOBAL is a New gTLD which was delegated to the DNS root zone on 6th June, 2014 and was made available for the public to register on 9th September, 2014. Very close to completing their 5-year anniversary, this nTLD has seen 49K+ registrations to date.

The registry operating .GLOBAL is the Dot Global Domain Registry Limited, while the Registry’s backend services are handled by Afilias in partnership with CloudNames, a Norwegian gTLD consultancy and management services company.

Who is .GLOBAL meant for?

  • Startups and SMBs who wish to expand their reach in the global market
  • Bloggers and vloggers

Why should you sell .GLOBAL

.GLOBAL truly is a borderless TLD in the sense that it enables businesses, organizations, and individuals to operate in a worldwide capacity. Besides, this TLD also supports multiple scripts and special characters.

This is a promising TLD in terms of its appeals, and thereby its potential to help end-users do more with their online presence. Offer this unique and succinct New gTLD today to help your audience further reach out to a much wider audience.

To make things more convenient for you, we have a fantastic promo available on .GLOBAL TLDs which will remain active throughout the month. Don’t forget to check that out!

We hope you make the most of this promo while also offering a valuable domain name to your customer base.

Monthly Bulletin: August 2019

Hello folks!

It’s been a while since we published our last edition of the monthly bulletin, but we’re back after this not-so-brief hiatus! In this post, we’re covering some of the important events and developments from our industry that took place in the month of August.

1. Neustar takes control of two new gTLDs: Neustar recently took control of two new generic dot-brands viz. .COMPARE and .SELECT. These nTLDs previously belonged to iSelect – an Australian insurance company. The two TLDs have been assigned to Registry Services LLC, a new Neustar subsidiary. Ever since this move, everyone is waiting for Neustar to announce its plans for the said new acquisitions.

2. Google is set to launch .NEW with an innovative value proposition: Although Google has not revealed its exact plans for expanding the scope of the usage of .NEW domain names, reports reveal some insight.  They indicate that Google has ambitious plans to slowly release .NEW domain names with usage-based restrictions to a strategically controlled customer base from Q1 2020 onwards. It’s widely known how typing doc.new, spreadsheet.new, and slides.new in the browser leads the user to a new tab that opens a Google Doc, Spreadsheet and Slides, respectively. It’s quite possible that the new plan may involve Google letting brands use the said domain name in the same fashion.

3. Amazon, Google, and their fight for .KIDS: One of the longest-fought new gTLD contests for the nTLD .KIDS finally came to an end with both Amazon, and Google, losing the fight to a not-for-profit bid. Amazon withdrew its application for .KIDS which left the Honk Kong-based DotKids Foundation the only remaining applicant for the TLD. The fight between the applicants was settled privately.

4. Puerto Rico’s ccTLD, .PR turns 30!: .PR, the country-code top-level domain name that represents Puerto Rico in the online world reached the 30-year milestone, having offered 30 years of service to the Puerto Rican internet community as well as the public relations industry on August 27, 2019. Today, .PR is home to thousands of websites not just from Puerto Rico but also from across the globe.

5. Under the radar DDoS attacks rise by 158% in Q2 2019: Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have given lots of businesses a hard time in the past, and they are only getting more frequent with time. According to a recently published Cyber Threats and Trends research report from Neustar’s Security Operations Centre (SOC), it’s evident that the rate of DDoS attacks saw a 158% rise in the second quarter of 2019 as compared to the same time last year.

These were some of the significant newsworthy events from August 2019. We hope this post helped you catch up with information from the industry that made headlines. Watch out for more in this space in September!
