Netcraft December 2007 Web Server Survey sees ongoing record Growth

In Netcraft’s December 2007 survey they received responses from 155,230,051 sites. This was an increase of 5.4 million sites since November, continuing the very strong growth seen during this year. Netcraft point out the web has grown by nearly 50 million sites since December 2006.

This once again breaks the record for growth of the web in one year. The previous highest growth was 30 million sites in 2006. The growth is also impressive in percentage terms, with the web growing by 48% since last December — although this remains far less than the runaway growth of 160% seen back in 2000.

Traditionally hosted websites continue to grow strongly, however the most dramatic increase in the number of websites comes from blogging sites, with the three largest – MySpace, Live Spaces and Blogger – accounting for around 25 million sites in the survey.

Netcraft’s report also includes graphs and tables including Total Sites Across All Domains August 1995 – December 2007 and Market Share for Top Servers Across All Domains August 1995 – December 2007. To see their report, please click here.

Frameworks and Principles for Accountability and Transparency revised after further community input

MARINA DEL REY, Calif.: The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers today released a final draft of a key accountability document that has been amended to incorporate additional community input, including that of the Governmental Advisory Committee.

An issues paper summarizing these comments was posted in January 2007. It is time for the next quarterly ICANN meet and this time around it holds very special importance to us at LogicBoxes. The 2008 first quarter ICANN meet is scheduled to be held between 10th and 15th February in New Delhi, India. Being hosted in our own country for the very first time, it gives us immense pleasure to have the opportunity to especially invite you and your team to attend this meeting.

As always, this conference presents all members of the Internet Community with the opportunity to meet those within the ever expanding industry and exchange valuable insights on the current scenario and the expected road ahead. In addition to interacting and networking with key players, ICANN meetings allow all involved to voice their opinions on critical decisions and actively participate in the policy making process. Strategic decisions taken at such meetings will shape the future of Registrar businesses in the years to come.

Located within the host country, LogicBoxes has planned a surprise for all our clients and guests. It would be great if you and your team could join us for the same. At this point in time, I do not have the liberty of giving you more details on this exclusive event; however I can guarantee that it will be special and completely worth your while. Additionally, LogicBoxes and Skenzo will jointly sponsor the conference and we will have our booth at the venue throughout the meeting. Our entire contingent is expected to attend this meeting and we’d like to invite you all to drop in by the booth as per your convenience and give us the opportunity to discuss things over personally.

To make things a little easier, we have put together a whole list of hotels and resources that you could use to make your arrangements comfortably. We’d honestly like to see you all at the meeting and hope nothing deters you from making the trip to India. While ICANN has already listed out various options, we’ve taken up the initiative of finding accommodation and travel alternatives that might suit your needs. Please click here to access this information.

Also, if you intend to tour the country with family etc., do let us know and we could help you narrow down on places of interest and travel options. LogicBoxes’ Offices are located in Mumbai and if you do intend to visit our city, we’ll be glad to arrange for you to see our offices and meet our team in person.

We look forward to having you attend the meeting and sincerely hope that you will be part of the LogicBoxes event as well. Do let us know if you’ll need any additional information from us and we’d be more than happy to help.

The submission’s main point is that the conclusion of the JPA would be a further step in the transition envisioned since ICANN was established — one of moving the Domain Name System to private-sector co-ordination.
